Since 2003 Karen has shown her work, and received awards in many local and regional juried competitions and exhibits. Primarily self-taught since starting painting at Middlebury College, she's studied with Arlene Klafter and Chuck Marshall, and is always experimenting to learn more. She's a Signature member of the Cincinnati Art Club, and past member of the Ohio Plein Air Society. Partner in Paint & Panache Fine Art Studio (since 2012) with 5 other artists. Karen teaches oil and acrylic painting classes at the Middletown Arts Center.
Although earlier work is all in oils, exploring the capabilities of acrylics vs oils have been the focus of more recent work. Long a photographer and gardener, her photos are primary inspiration and reference for her paintings. Interested in everything and experimenting, painting subjects cover the gamut: Landscapes, Still- lifes, Portraits & figures, Macro flowers, Urban scapes in bright primaries. Light, and its many qualities, is the real subject of most of her work. Her goal: to make you see what makes her take pause, and say "Wow, look at that" ... to share her emotional response, and make sure you 'get it'. That and, just playing with paint is Zen, and totally absorbingly fun.
