Elle Pollard is a beeswax, encaustic, and mixed media artist. After working in the photography industry for over 30 years as an award-winning photojournalist, portrait, and most recently nature and wildlife photographer, Elle was diagnosed with a rare neurologic condition endangering her eyesight. Wanting to find a way to always know her favorite photographs and be able to enjoy them if she would go blind, Elle started to use encaustic wax to build texture atop her photographs. “If my eyes fail me, I will be able to feel the texture and know my images.” She fell in love with the medium while creating highly textural photo encaustic pieces for her personal collection. “As long as I have my sight and the ability to create work in encaustic, I must share this fascinating medium with the world.” Elle’s studio and gallery are located in Middletown, Ohio.
