That incidental catch of a phrase, the overheard remark, the catty comeback . . . these are the words that serve as seeds, the place of inception for my sculptural storytelling. As an ‘author in clay’ my works become linked. A series is formed. I experience great joy in the telling of the story.

About the Artist

Jan Wiesner, a sculptor, grew up in Paradise, Texas. She is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati, DAAP where she received her BFA. She served as an Art Teacher for the King & Low-Heywood Thomas School in Stanford, Connecticut as well as teaching at the Seven Hills School here in Cincinnati. She completed her teaching career at The Summit Country Day School where she was the recipient of the school’s Schilderink Family Chair Award for Outstanding Teaching Award in 2013 and in 2015 she received the State Elementary School Art Teacher of the Year Award from the Ohio Art Education Association. She was also an adjunct professor of Art Education at Xavier University.

Jan shares a studio at the Pendleton Art Center with her husband Mark, who is also a sculptor. She is represented by Caza Sikes Gallery, Cincinnati.
