I salvage local wood from trees that I turn on a lathe into bowls, platters, boxes and artwork. Recently I’ve focused on basket illustration pieces, that are modeled after Native American baskets, where I turn one piece of wood into a platter/bowl/hollow form and then bead it burning lines both in the grooves of the beads and segment lines. Separately I design a pattern on an App on my iPad called Procreate that I then transfer to the piece I’ve turned painting each of the individual squares separately. These pieces can often take 40 or more hours to complete requiring incredible attention to detail but I find them both challenging and incredibly satisfying.
