Astrid is a wall-hanging sculpture (can also be free-standing) composed of plaster cast, encaustic wax, collage, gold leaf and crushed glass. When lit from behind, the material is semi-translucent and highlights the many layers of material, telling Astrid’s story.

Astrid has become beautiful. She has garnered her scars; she has woven her layers; her burns and beauty are hard-won. She tells stories of epic loves and even more tragic loss. She has seen things she cannot describe and wept at the most simple moments. Astrid sings the blues, reads anything in front of her, loves the sea and darkness. She holds her cards close, though every person she meets feels as if they know her well. She yearns to travel and claim a new name on every distant shore. Astrid is most at home with a blanket over her lap, glass of a wine in hand, candlelight her only companion. Well, aside from her five pet overly-aggressive Beta fish.
